4 Signs You Should Bring in a Professional for Your Paint Project | D&D Painting

Painting is a home improvement project that many people try to DIY. And for good reason – small paint projects are often manageable for homeowners who are willing to put in the time required to properly prep and paint. However, sometimes a paint job may seem small but turn into a much bigger ordeal. If you are thinking about starting a DIY paint project – or are in the middle of one – there are four signs that you should bring in a professional for help.

You do not have the appropriate tools

The appropriate tools can make a significant difference in how long a project takes and the quality of your finished product. If your home has very tall ceilings and you do not have the ladders or scaffolding you need then it is going to be difficult to get to all of the areas that require painting. Other types of tools that you will need for most paint projects include quality brushes, rollers, extension poles, paint trays, drop cloths and painter’s tape. It can become expensive and time consuming to get all of the tools you need for your paint project. If you find yourself in a place where you are going to have to make a serious investment in tools just to get started, consider bringing in a professional for your paint project.

The project will take you a long time

Time is a finite resource and there are few people who feel like they have enough of it. Doing a paint project on your own will likely cause it to stretch out for a lot longer than if you hired a professional. The reality is that painting professionals have experience that allows them to work much more quickly and provide better results than the typical DIYer. If your paint project is threatening to stretch out for longer than you originally intended then you should bring in a professional.

There is a lot of repair and prep work required

The amount of repair and prep work required for your project will dictate whether or not you should bring in professional help. If there is a lot of repair and prep work required you may not have the knowledge or skill to make the repairs properly. For example, on interior paint projects there are often areas of sheetrock that require repair. Effectively repairing sheetrock is not a skill that most people have. On exterior paint projects, there is often an extensive amount of prep work required to remove old paint and prepare the surface for new paint. If you do not have the expertise or time to do the necessary repair and prep work, call in the professionals.

You are overwhelmed

The fourth sign that it is time to bring in professional help for your paint project is the way that you feel. If you are feeling overwhelmed with the scope of your paint project then it is time to get some help. You may be able to save a few dollars by painting on your own but you need to determine if those savings are really worth the cost.

The pros at D&D Painting can help you with any type of home paint project. You can get help with every element of the process from choosing a color to repairing serious damage to getting your paint project completed.
