four-tips-to-texture.jpgPutting texture on your walls can add dimension to the room and hide slight imperfections on the wall. But, you have to be careful not to add imperfections to the walls by improperly applying the texture. Adding texture to your walls is not an exact science but it can really look bad if you apply it unevenly or incorrectly. If you are thinking about texturing your walls there are four tips that will make the process and the finished result much better.

  • Prepare your walls

The first step to properly texturing your walls is to prepare them. The amount of preparation you have to do depends on the current condition of your walls. If they have a thick layer of old texture you may have to scrape and sand them down in order to get them ready. You will also need to repair any areas where the sheetrock has been damaged before you texture the walls. If your walls are in good condition then you may only need to wipe them down and make sure they are free from debris. Do not skip this part of the process because it will significantly impact your final result.

  • Prepare the space

There are several different types of texture and some of them are messy to apply. You need to prepare the room so the texture does not get on any of your flooring or furniture and cause damage. Prepare the room for texture in the same way you would prepare for painting. Cover the flooring with some type of drop cloth and do the same with the furniture.

  • Invest in the right types of tools

Proper tools will make a big difference for you in the process of adding texture to your walls. Do-it-yourself projects can quickly become frustrating when you do not have the proper tools. If you are going to do the job of texturing your walls on your own then invest in the right types of tools. You may spend a little more money upfront but it will be worth it for the time and frustration it saves you.

  • Call in professional help
